Lincolnshire-based Boston seeds has introduced a green manure product onto the UK market that can be used as both a natural fumigant and soil conditioner. Named Vittasso brown mustard, the product is already popular in the US and some parts of Europe.

According to information published in the scientific newsletter Beneficial Nutrients News, silicon protects potatoes against bacterial diseases. This nutrient enhances the plant’s resistance to bacterial wilt, blackleg and soft rot, it is said in the publication. Silicon can also reduce damage caused by drought stress, Beneficial Nutrients News reports.
